{"id":981,"date":"2013-10-18T13:50:54","date_gmt":"2013-10-18T13:50:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.blessedinthemess.com\/blog\/?p=981"},"modified":"2021-04-13T20:04:53","modified_gmt":"2021-04-13T20:04:53","slug":"artist-way","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.blessedinthemess.com\/blog\/artist-way\/","title":{"rendered":"Artist Way."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For the last 6 weeks I have been doing this journaling program called the &#8220;Artist Way&#8221; and it is amazing.\u00a0 Since I was a little girl, journaling was how I processed the world around me and has been an outlet for a very long time. However, this program is not just writing down feelings on a blank page (well some of it is) but an intentional journey into yourself with guided questions and exercises.\u00a0 It is a process of reflection and truth and a way back to the simply joys of life, whatever those might be for you.<\/p>\n<p>You do not have to be a writer or an &#8220;artist&#8221; to reap the benefits of this program. Julia Cameron states that the majority of us have always been artists at our core, yet we lost that creative side of ourselves along the way.\u00a0 I consider my own early years of childhood, in which I had a vivid imagination, I wasn&#8217;t afraid to try anything new or dream big dreams. Insert trauma, adulthood, school, poor role models, responsibility&#8230;.whatever it is that squashed that inner artist.<\/p>\n<p><em> &#8220;<strong>You can&#8217;t make a living doing that.&#8221;\u00a0 <\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>&#8220;Focus on something that will get you a real job.&#8221;<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><b><i>&#8220;That person is a better writer.&#8221;<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.blessedinthemess.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/Picture-485.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-900 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.blessedinthemess.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/Picture-485.jpg\" alt=\"Picture 485\" width=\"472\" height=\"472\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.blessedinthemess.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/Picture-485.jpg 1440w, http:\/\/www.blessedinthemess.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/Picture-485-150x150.jpg 150w, http:\/\/www.blessedinthemess.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/Picture-485-300x300.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.blessedinthemess.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/Picture-485-1024x1024.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 472px) 100vw, 472px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It is not that these adults were trying to crush us, most of the time adults say such things because THEY had their inner artist crushed too, so they know no other way.\u00a0 This is how life is to most.\u00a0 You leave your dreams and passions by the way side and settle for something that is more &#8220;responsible&#8221;.\u00a0 Because we all have to grow up at some point right?\u00a0 Wrong.\u00a0 The older I get, the more I realize <strong>adults are really just kids with a filter<\/strong>.\u00a0 For the most part we all have the same personalities, desires, funny quirks as our 8 year old selves, just a little more mature.\u00a0 So why do we muffle those awesome parts of ourselves?<\/p>\n<p>I am fortunate to have all the journals I wrote in growing up and it is so cool to look back at them and read what I wrote about.\u00a0 One that I read recently was from my 8 year old self ( I swear I can not even make this up- but I did correct the spelling so that you could understand it ;)&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;If I had a million dollars I would buy all the Sour Patch Kids in whole world so that I could have them all to myself.\u00a0 I would also open a puppy shelter and have a\u00a0 big house in the woods, I love trees.\u00a0 I would also give lots of money to people who don&#8217;t have lots of stuff, because I have too much I think- especially stuffed animals.\u00a0 God wants us to help other people so we always should.\u00a0 I like making other people feel happy.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.blessedinthemess.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/spks.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-984 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.blessedinthemess.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/spks.jpg\" alt=\"spks\" width=\"438\" height=\"583\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.blessedinthemess.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/spks.jpg 720w, http:\/\/www.blessedinthemess.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/spks-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 438px) 100vw, 438px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>20 years later&#8230;.and that sentence above is 100% totally still me, even the sour patch kids part.\u00a0 What part of your inner child or inner artist are you ignoring?\u00a0 Don&#8217;t ignore it any longer.\u00a0 <strong>Usually the things you are passionate about and put on this earth to do are the things you enjoyed as a child.<\/strong> \u00a0 Even if those particular things are not your career choice right now, doing those things\u00a0 for fun will open up your mind and your heart to so many other cool opportunities.\u00a0 I used to LOVE writing.\u00a0 I spent so much of my life doing it, for the longest time I wanted to be an author &#8220;when I grew up&#8221;. But I let a few criticisms convince me that I was not a good writer. So, I just kept it to myself.\u00a0 When I started this blog, it was really me just trying to do something that I love and enjoy.
