{"id":2449,"date":"2018-11-26T20:10:58","date_gmt":"2018-11-26T20:10:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.blessedinthemess.com\/blog\/?p=2449"},"modified":"2018-11-26T20:10:58","modified_gmt":"2018-11-26T20:10:58","slug":"fearlessly-authentic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.blessedinthemess.com\/blog\/fearlessly-authentic\/","title":{"rendered":"Fearlessly Authentic."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Fearlessly Authentic.\u00a0 This is what I would call my personal journey that has been a few years in the making and it really all started with the most spiritually awakening and exhausting experience there is: becoming a parent.<\/p>\n<p>When I became a Mom for the first time, I was overwhelmed with happiness. The transition into my new life was so shockingly smooth and wonderful for those first few months that at times I actually wondered why people made this parenting thing seem so hard. Then I went back to work.<\/p>\n<p>All of a sudden, I had anxiety.\u00a0 I was depressed.\u00a0 I was overwhelmed.\u00a0 I cried every night thinking about leaving my new baby for 10 hours and also thinking about all the time I didn\u2019t have to do so many things that were being asked of me. Nothing about this felt right, even though I had a career and co-workers that I really loved.\u00a0 Every part of my body and soul was fighting it. I kept thinking- how come nobody talks about this?\u00a0 <strong>How come nobody warned me that to be a fully present parent and successful in my career would feel damn near impossible?<\/strong> And that the amount of overwhelm &amp; inadequacy I would feel would be paralyzing? How come everybody seems to act as if this is just what people do?\u00a0 WHAT IN THE ACTUAL HECK.<\/p>\n<p>So I started talking about it.\u00a0 A lot.\u00a0 Probably to the point of my friend\u2019s and co-worker\u2019s annoyance.\u00a0 I told my boss I was struggling to keep up but was doing the best I could. I talked to my friends about how I held this new sense of resentment towards my husband and I didn&#8217;t know how to process it. I talked to co-workers about how pressured I felt to be good at everything yet consistently feel like a failure at the end of every day.<\/p>\n<p>And the more I shared the more I was met by this beautiful chorus of &#8220;me too&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, when I decided to pursue a different job with more flexibility to better balance work\/home\/motherhood- I was met by another chorus of \u201cI wish I could do that\u201d.\u00a0 Which hurt my heart and is another topic for another day.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.blessedinthemess.com\/blog\/fearlessly-authentic\/image\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2450\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2450 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.blessedinthemess.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/image.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"422\" height=\"422\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.blessedinthemess.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/image.jpeg 1242w, http:\/\/www.blessedinthemess.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/image-150x150.jpeg 150w, http:\/\/www.blessedinthemess.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/image-300x300.jpeg 300w, http:\/\/www.blessedinthemess.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/image-768x768.jpeg 768w, http:\/\/www.blessedinthemess.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/image-1024x1024.jpeg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 422px) 100vw, 422px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As I went deeper into motherhood and eventually had my second child, I realized there was so much more we don&#8217;t talk about. So I made it a little personal goal to be fearlessly authentic.\u00a0 To be honest and forthcoming about my joys but also my struggles. I don&#8217;t do this to play the martyr or be dramatic, but so that I do not feed into the facade that my life is perfect so you should feel crappy about yours. I don\u2019t want to add to that.\u00a0 People feel inadequate enough as it is.\u00a0 I am a happy and positive person by nature and I love my life but man do I struggle in many ways.\u00a0 Here are some examples:<\/p>\n<p><em>I love my girls and being a Mom.\u00a0 But sometimes I feel suffocated and depleted by motherhood. <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>My husband is a good man whom I love.\u00a0 But sometimes I harbor strong feelings of resentment and rage towards him that have a negative effect on our marriage. <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>I love my work, but I struggle with it fulfilling my whole purpose.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>I struggle every day with feelings of not being good enough.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>I have a hard time managing my money <\/em><\/p>\n<p>Being authentic does this powerful thing.\u00a0 It frees you from your own prison.\u00a0 There is this myth that when you share your vulnerabilities, you give them power.\u00a0 But on the contrary&#8211;it does the opposite. It sets you free.\u00a0 Free from trying to play the game, balance all the balls in the air and say everything\u2019s fine when really you are on the verge of a breakdown. Nobody&#8217;s life is fine all the time. NOBODY.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"irc_mi aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.pinimg.com\/originals\/8b\/07\/a7\/8b07a7bf0f95705e90f1a1d3b7e36621.jpg\" alt=\"Image result for authenticity quotes\" width=\"264\" height=\"327\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Authenticity has another powerful affect- that person you just shared your truth with?\u00a0 They have a truth they have been weighed down by and afraid to share, but you sharing yours, it frees THEM.\u00a0 Instead of that person walking away from you thinking \u201cwell he\/she has it all together, so now I feel even more like a mess.\u201d\u00a0 They feel empowered, they feel relieved that is not just them.<\/p>\n<p>I am not saying we need to share our woes with everybody who will listen, that isn&#8217;t healthy either.\u00a0 <strong>However, I believe the mental health of our society can be directly correlated to this isolation we bring on ourselves because we are fighting battles alone that should be fought together.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Saying everything is okay does not make the darkness go away, it makes it darker.\u00a0 When you share your truth, slowly lights will begin to flicker.\u00a0 Those lights are other people whispering \u201cme too\u201d and then suddenly instead of being overwhelmed by that said darkness, you will be overwhelmed by light and community.\u00a0 This is the way to live, I believe it with my whole heart.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Fearlessly Authentic.\u00a0 This is what I would call my personal journey that has been a few years in the making and it really all started with the most spiritually awakening and exhausting experience there is: becoming a parent.
